Storytelling Workshop

Carmen Agra Deedy is a fabulous storyteller, author, and now I find out, editor. I was lucky enough to spend most of the day in a workshop she is conducting at Queen of Angels School on storytelling. She actually had us all come up with an outline for a picture book as an exercise. She is also hoping to get quite a few manuscripts sent to her from the group I was in. Will I be one of those? My outline is based on my realization as a 10-year-old, after moving from England to the Southern US that civil rights was something that affected me directly because I realized that one of my best friends in England is/was black. I also learned that was a bad thing, because I am white. She really liked the story concept and thinks it is a story that needs telling with some of the things I could include. What I really need to come up with at the moment is a stronger ending. Hmmm. Lots of things to think about. I think this is something I might work on a little this summer and see if it takes me anywhere. We'll see.
